The Curate’s Egg is the ‘nom de crayon’ of pencil artist Gillie Marshall-Howells. Based on the Isle of Sheppey off the coast of Kent UK, she works from her garden studio assisted by, among other pets, her giant tortoise Myrtle and her Yorkshire Terrier Puck.
Gillie became an artist through a cruel twist of fate. A bout of meningitis and the discovery of an inoperable benign brain tumour left her unable to work in her beloved Accountancy field.
Feeling shell shocked, useless and at times suicidal, Gillie grabbed the chance of art therapy when it was suggested and discovered that although the meningitis had robbed her of her mathematical abilities it had yielded an astonishing ability to draw.
She now combines close observation, methodology, hours of patient work and lots of care to create realistic pet portraits with emotional impact.
Gillie’s drawings are based on your favourite photos using your choice of graphite or coloured pencils, or a combination of both.
Gillie uses only the finest professional materials to create each portrait.
Playful pups, crazy cats, heart horses or desperately missed Rainbow Bridge pets are all brought to life on the page by many layers of gentle, precise pencil strokes, capturing your pets sparkle, spirit and character in a very special way to capture your memories.
